Tutorial
Add custom fields to customer records
In staging, open Customize Form and select Customer. Review the existing fields before adding another.
Before you start
Configure the company, users, workflows, custom fields, printing, communications and integrations. Administrative changes affect other users and should be tested in staging before production deployment.
ERP links open in a new tab. Sign in with your own account; record visibility, actions and approval authority follow your assigned permissions. Screens can differ by company and configuration.
Step-by-step instructions
- In staging, open Customize Form and select Customer. Review the existing fields before adding another.
- Add a field with a clear label and stable field identifier. Choose Data, Select, Link, Date, Currency, Check or another appropriate supported type.
- Set placement and permitted behavior. Add Select choices or a Link target where required; avoid making a field mandatory until existing data is considered.
- Save the customization, reload a Customer form, and test entry, validation, list filtering and authorized access.
- Include the approved customization in the production release and update any integrations that rely on the new field.
Check the result
Return to the saved record or relevant list and verify the intended values, links and status. Check the role-restricted portal or report when it is part of this task. A successful save, approval, submission and external payment are different events.
Troubleshooting
A Table field needs a suitable child record type. Adding a form field does not automatically add it to every report or API client.
If the task is blocked, record the page name, operation, error text and time. Contact Support through an authorized channel. Remove passwords and unnecessary personal information from screenshots.
